Atsc Ntsc
My TV has ATSC NTSC and QAM. It gets analog and some HD. All other cable digital chnls say "low strength"????
The full message is "Digital Channel Signal Strength Is Low" I think these might be scramble by my cable company. Is there any way to receive them without a cable box? I thought because my TV has all the latest tuners built in I could receive non-premieum channels without the cable box.
The NTSC tuner is getting you the analog TV.
The QAM tuner is getting you whatever digital TV is on your cable, unscrambled. What this includes varies from cable provider to cable provider; but generally includes the locally available over the air digital TV, including HD.
Any other scrambled analog and digital TV on the cable cannot be received without a cable box.
Your TV may be reacting to these channels or it may be reacting to the fact that the ATSC tuner, which picks-up over the air digital TV, can't see any since you're not connected to an antenna.
TVs vary in how they handle these issues, so I can't be more definitive.
Bottom line, if you want the rest of your cable providers HDTV, you'll need their HD service and box.
