two exactly similar heating resistances are to be used, connected across a main supply to heat some water.?
Is more heat obtained per minute if they are connected in series or if they are connected in parallel? give reason for your answer.

let suppose there are two resistances each of R and net i current is flowing...........
now when resistance connected in series , same current flowing through each resistance ....
from joule law ....
heat produced , h = i^2Rt in each resistance
total heat produced = 2 ( i^2 Rt )
when resistance connected in parallel , i/2 current flows through each resistance......
heat produced = i^2Rt / 4 in each resistance
total heat produced = i^2Rt / 2
now u can see heat produced in series combination is 4 times to heat produced in parallel combination. actually heat produced due to parallel combination is even less than the heat produced by single resistance ( i^2 Rt ) ..............
