why is the brain folded and so elongated?
the brain is an extension of the so called vertebra column which is not folded,so why does it have to be so folded and elongated
The folds increase the surface area, thus allowing more neutrons to fit.
The vertebral column on the other hand has to support the body upright, thus excess folds would be unnecessary. It also has to house the spinal cord, (obv. very delicate) and folds would most likely damage this and render you incapacitated.
there is a condition where people are born without the folds. Their brain is smooth in appearance.
It is rare, with the condition 1 in 6,000,000.
Children are then generally mentally impaired. They Experience periodic blindness, shortened lifespan, early teens would be lucky, obesity from early age, limited communication skills if any.
