Strange, strange calculation of stamp?
I understand calculations buffer, but I do not understand the logic of the answer in my manual coutions this question: to prepare 100 ml of a buffer particularly, 63 ml of 0.2 M HC2H3O2 mixed with 37 ml of 0.2 M NaC2H3O2. What is the pH of the buffer?
0.063 L x 0.2 M = 0.0126 moles of HOAc 0.037 L x 0.2 M = 0.0074 mol NaOAc total volume = 0.100 L [HOAc] = 0.0126 mol / L = 0.100 0.126 M [NaOAc] = 0.0074 mol / 0.100 L = 0.074 M pH = pKa + log (0.074/0.126) pH = pKa - 0.23 pKa =- log (Ka) =- log (1.75x10 ^ -5) = 4.76 pH = 4.76 0.23 = 4.53
