How to diagnose a dark or black LCD computer screen
Ok, you use your laptop normally and everything works well. Then, one day you turn on your laptop and you're not sure, is it me or am I still asleep? The screen of my laptop does not work. What should I do now. Well, the good news is that it could have been worse. Now to follow to resolve the problem there are some things to see for determine the problem.
The first thing I would advise to do is check your laptop with an external monitor to ensure that this is not the video chip that has gone wrong. So, connect your computer to an external monitor and see if you get a picture (you may need to press the FN and one of F1, F2, F3, etc. ... keys simultaneously to exit to an external monitor, if you get an image on the external monitor, you know this is not the motherboard, (whew, was already afraid). If you do not get a picture on the external monitor make sure it is plugged correctly and that you pressed the right buttons for the output go to the external display. If you are sure you have all the above steps correctly, then turn off the computer and try to press the keyboard while powering up the laptop and see if you get a picture. Sometimes, if a computer has a loose connection between the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and the motherboard it will not video or pastry, then try pressing the keyboard while powering up and try to see if you get video. If you get a video output, you know that it is a flaky video chip that will be corrected.
Now back to if you have an image on a screen externally. Once you've got a picture on the external monitor and determined that it is not the video chip, motherboard, you should try to determine if it the LCD itself or if the UPS. The converter is a small electronic board that controls the voltage that is sent to the backlight (The lamp of the computer screen) of the LCD. If the UPS breaks or dies voltage reaches the backlight resulting in no video output signal to the screen. In my experience as a technician for www.nylaptopparts.com I see that most of the time it is the inverter that is the problem and a solution that is easy enough, just to get the inverter with correct the right amount of tension and you are back in business. But in some cases, it is the backlight (bulb) that is gone, and fix what is more difficult and takes more time. If you do not see an image, even when the bright flashlight, then it is very likely the inverter and it should be an easy solution.
On a final note, if you determine that the backlight which is defective, but it is repairable it takes more time and experience while replacing the inverter, and if it is not known, he / she may cause the LCD itself and, in general, if the backlight is faulty, or have a laptop repair shop to replace the backlight, but only he who has experience. Or another option is to buy a new LCD panel and install it yourself or proffesionally.
